W3 Schools Site Review

Site Name: W3 Schools

Site Purpose: The purpose of this site is to be a learning resource for web coding and design. The site offers Tutorials, References, Learning Exercises, and Training videos.

  1. Does the site's home page validate? No it does not.
  2. Find any other page on the site. Does the second page validate? I chose to validate the main HTML Tutorial page. This page also did not validate.
  3. Document how many validation errors and/or warnings may exist on each of the two pages you validate. The site homepage had 3 error messages and 3 warnings. The HTML Tutorial page had 5 warnings and 14 errors.
  4. How would you rate the site's design, on a scale of 1(horrible) to 10 (fantastic)? Why? I would rate this site design as a 9. The layout is very clean and simple, yet nice to look at. The only point lost is because I hate looking at ads! While I do realize that's how they pay for this wonderful resource. I feel like ads clutter up a site and distract from the information.
  5. How would you rate the site's usability on a scale of 1 (horrible) to 10 (fantastic)? Why? I would rate the usability as a 10. I feel the site is very well laid out and intuitive to use. It's easy to find what you're looking for under each main topic (Tutorials, References, & Exercises).
  6. Does the site meet its purpose? Yes, it does. I love this site and reference it very often for help with web design (especially CSS, which I'm still learning a lot on). It is a helpful educational site with thorough information and really useful hands on learning tools.
